Read this on recommendation from a friend - I really appreciated how everything came together. The author is good at tying in loose ends in great ways. I especially loved how the characters had real tension between their duties and each other in realistic ways without monologuing. My only gripe is that it could have leaned more into unreliable narrators, but it would be a different book if it did. Saw the end coming and was still pleased. Highly recommend reviewing content warnings, though.

This book consumed me, I could barely put it down. Every plot development and realization delighted me. Captain Cordelia Naismith, from a democratic planet whose gender equality is often remarked upon, and Lord Aral Vorkosigan, from the aristocracy of imperial, segregated Barrayar, speed-run enemies to lovers on an uninhabited alien planet after being left behind by their respective crews and spend the rest of the book trying to figure out how to exist - separately and together - while thrust in the midst of both planets’ political scheming.

The audiobook includes Aftermaths which I give 5 stars and includes cw:
death, grief, gore

I feel like I may have read it before in a different book in the series but I haven't figured out which. Possibly the first time I attempted SoH in which I DNF'd it during the scene with Vorrutyer and skipped ahead to Miles' books, though I was reading the physical copy at that time and I'm not sure it also has it. Possibly I just found it online.

Perfectly fine, just not my cup of tea. Still, I'm not opposed to checking out another one at some point.
