I’m fond of the series. It’s not the deepest literature but the violence is at the point of being just too much. I’m not a prude and I’m not usually squeamish, but I feel there’s a line crossed and it’s just unpleasant. I understand the need to shock and come up with fresh ideas, but the direction is just too much for me. I’ll maybe come back to the series, but this one was a few steps too far.

This book is recommended for insomniacs everywhere. It won't cure your insomnia but at least you can blame this book for keeping you awake. The usual cliches apply - "unputdownable" "rollercoaster-ride"etc. - More than that this book is a brutal, brilliant journey into a serial killer investigation told with real pace that has you racing from one chapter to the next, until you reach a real sting in the tail twist to the end. I hear the sound of money being spent on Chris Carter novels as I contemplate a binge watch on his other books.
