The book is a collection of small articles (?!) or blog posts that the author compiled along with artworks for each of the articles. The message is simple and relatable, which made reading this book a speedy one. However, there were still some editing and grammar flaws that really took away the 1 star from my rating. Overall, if I need a quick 'Pick-me-up' type of motivational book, this would be on top of the list for sure. 4*/5*

I loved this book; I really did, and that might surprise anyone who knows me in person. Or maybe not. That's what I love so much though: Victore's edge & candor - for the most part - are what rattles around in my head, only to come out of my mouth as a jumbled, jargony lump. Writing this review, nearly one year after I finished my initial reading, conjures strong memories and even stronger vibrations to simply go for it (all of it!) on my terms. My favorite pages are about the responses good art and bad art bring: on my toughest pandemic days, the art vignette made whatever I created or wrote that day feel more designerly, which was and always will be a win in my book . . . and in Victore's book . . . and who cares about anyone else's book because Feck Perfection :)

A light read, definitely worth your time if you're in need of a pick me up or motivation to live by.

"Bad art makes you say, “Wow! Huh?”
Good art makes you say, “Huh? Wow!”"

"You don’t have to feed your audience information they already know in a way they already expect. Play with their senses and tease their rational way of thinking. Trust your audience’s curiosity. Whether they confess it or not, the public wants to be intellectually challenged, not spoon-fed a common, boring, or “right” answer. To surprise and enlighten your audience is to give them a gift."

"Your voice is the story you put into everything you do. It’s what sets you apart and makes you and your work memorable. It frees you from following trends or begging for ideas, asking, “What do they want?” Now your most powerful tool is asking yourself, “What do I have to say?”"

"The day shift is not you at your best. The uncomfortable spot is where your true voice is: shamelessly and outrageously you. The brave ones—companies and individuals—who risk comfort and safety for a chance at beauty and meaning have the potential to attain more—to actually move someone."

"Asking questions is the path to knowledge, and asking for help is how you progress."

Show up, Do the work, and Be Yourself.

We all know this, we hear it, yet we always need to be reminded.

This book was the perfect reminder! There is so much more guidance in his words. Great to read if you're getting started, feeling stuck, need motivation or inspiration.
