This is my favorite of the Mary Russell series and let me tell you, it’s hard to choose a favorite out of this amazing series. Each and every book Laurie King adds, is a treat. One thing that I loved about this story in particular was the mood. Suspense exists throughout the story as Mary and Holmes travel through Palestine and unravel a mystery. But beyond that, is a journey through a land filled with mystique and history. A land full of people and culture. I found the characters Ali and Mahmoud mysterious, aggravating, and likeable. And as a linguist I found the discussion and use of languages intriguing. My desire to learn Arabic was renewed with this book. All in all, this story is a thoroughly enjoyable mad chase from one end of Palestine to the other, full of notable and memorable characters and events in history.

Thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end. Russell and Holmes in the Holy Land is the armchair trip of a lifetime. And the addition of Mahmoud and Ali....I'm happy we'll see them again.

It's hard to pick favorites in this series, but surely this is in the top 5 for me. And once again, narrator Jenny Sterlin is magic!

This one just moved to slowly and was about events of which I wasn't familiar enough to keep up.

Ok I loved this series last summer but I took a break from it and with this book I was struggling to get back into it as much as I was then. I still like the characters but a lot of it went over my head which I think added to me not being engaged. I was just really bored to be honest. Still love Holmes though. This is just a little bump in the road don’t worry about it.

I don't remember having this problem with the book, but with the audiobook I had a difficult time remembering that this book took place between the first and second books.

Another wonderful story - this time, in the Middle East.
