Beautiful illustrations - all a bit ‘same same’ by the end - some of which should have been photos for accuracy.
Inconsistent labelling of illustrations.
Indigenous information stuck at the back of the book, as was the call to action on climate change.
Colonial statements such as ‘…Matthew Flinders was the first to map the Australian coastline…’ are insensitive to indigenous history.
Some facts are not specific enough and should be, eg. coral doesn’t release eggs and sperm, the polyps do; the location of ‘most famous shipwreck’ is not stated (Juru lands/ Cape Bowling Green).
Most of the scientific information is great, perhaps presented with too much focus on the intended audience? ie. over-simplified and therefore not quite accurate.
