hazeyfails's review against another edition
I basically only liked that we got to see a different ark. It felt utterly disappointing that our heroine was supposedly such a go getter and fighter through everything she survived in the pole and then in this book, two years passed and she was just reading?
Reviews of the 4th book were pretty abysmal. Even the people that "liked" it had several complaints and felt either disappointed or confused. There's too many side quests, too much making Ophelia lose her agency, too much entrapment and bullying to the point it felt like the author's f***sh. Not shaming, just not at all for me. I kept hoping something would pull me back because I loved the first 2 books, like more time with the characters from before at least? but apparently it only gets worse, the author kills off characters and adds too many twists and turns and overly convoluted explanations etc. Since book 4 is an open ending, might as well stop at book 2 and create your own ideas of what could happen.

This book had a very different tone than the first two, and I think that has more to do with Ophelia’s change in character and motivation. The world-building went even further with the main plot unfolding on Babel, rather than the Pole. I loved the twists and turns of this one, and the continued transformation of Ophelia’s and Thorn’s relationship. Though I wish I saw more of it.
Graphic: Death and Murder
Moderate: Sexual assault, Torture, and Violence
