I am going to be so for real with you; if the beginning wasn't charming, if Ford's prose wasn't good, and if the ending punchline wasn't good this book would be a 0.5 stars. Thankfully it had all of those things, but I still hesitate to recommend it, even to the most diehard trekkies.

I read this Trek novel decades ago, and its humor - this is a deeply, deeply funny book - has stayed with me this whole time.

Read for my nerdy book club. This book is goofy as hell. If I were more of a Star Trek Original Recipe person I would probably have enjoyed it more, but as it was I found it fine. I really want to know what songs are being parodied, though!

If you’re familiar with fanfiction, and you enjoy crack!fics, this book is for you. If you’re looking for a campy comedy, you might enjoy it, but it’s quite absurdist.

I picked this up for a light read after Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose, only to find an almost exact parallel of the climax reflected in a deadly struggle over the dogmatic importance of comedy and laughter.

John M Ford writes the best schlock, and there's some really well done humor in here.
