This was really interesting! It actually didn’t focus on Loki as much as I expected. It was still definitely about him, but it wasn’t about just him. Loki, Valkyrie, Tony Stark, and Jane Foster were all major point of view characters.
I really like alternate universe stories, and seeing familiar characters combine in different ways to form a new, unique plot. There was so much more going on here than just Loki being worthy, but to say too much would spoil the surprises! Suffice it to say, I really liked this original plot! Oh, and Quinn was an amazing addition to Marvel lore, and she must be protected at all costs.
The ending set up some plot threads for the next book in the series, which surprised me; I didn’t realize the books would be interconnected. But now I’m even more excited for when the next one comes out!

This was a LOT better than what I thought it would be. The current state of Marvel (movies and TV series) is not at its height, though not at its lowest, either. A good story...is VERY much needed...and I believe that this first book in this series was a homerun, or at least a triple.
I have watched all the Marvel movies, for the most part, and some of them MANY times. I have not watched all the latest TV series...and have felt that there's been TOO much, and not enough good.
So, when I reached for this book, it was with LOW expectations. Also, I have not liked the "What if...?" animation...S1 (only watching the first three or four). Not sure why it didn't work.
Now, this book/story was amazing.
I loved ALL the characters represented within this story. Obviously, since the Loki TV series...I've fallen in love with that character. I also have a stronger love for the Thor movies, than most. Been in love with the actress Natalie Portman...since her first appearance in Leon: The Professional...and her Star Wars stint as Padmé (and even her SNL skits). And happy with her time as Jane Foster, too.
There are sad things that happened within this story, and I was NOT happy with all of them (veiled hint within this sentence).
I actually shed tears nearing the end of this story. I'm a parent, have three children, and would/have fought for them...in their best interests...too.
Loved this "What if...Loki was Worthy? story, and I believe the author threaded the needle in this story with amazing deft.
Runa as a character was classic, and how Donna was in this story.
Quinn is precious and pure...and even Pepper Potts was amazing.
I, myself am a Captain America fan, and just tolerate Iron Man, but I also didn't want him to be dissed in the Elsewhere story.
I also feel that Asgard was represented magnificently, too.
When reading this story, I was transported there.
So thankful...that I read this book. Funny thing, is...that I am reading this series...to get to Mike Chen's book, Marvel 03 What If . . . Marc Spector Was Host to Venom. So...one down, and two to go...so far.

Enjoyable though not my favorite Marvel characters. Since I started with the second book in this series it was interest to see the over arching plot start to develop. Definitely worth a read though my hearts always going to live with the mutants instead of the avengers ;-)

DNF around a third of the way through.
What if ...this book was actually about Loki? I guess this is *partly* on me because I apparently didn't read the entire description which mentions Tony will be in this book in like the second to last sentence, but also I feel like the entire book has been about him so far which really just shouldn't be the case based on the marketing and him only being mentioned once in the description. Meanwhile Loki's been in like maybe two chapters or something. I'm sure he shows up more later and stuff will come together towards the end but honestly it's just not engaging or well written enough for me to keep going to find out. Glad I only paid a dollar for this on Audible lmao

Great start to the series! Once I got started I felt like I couldn’t put it down. I love the What if… show, so when I saw that books were coming out I was super excited; this book did not disappoint!
Brian!!! 😭😭
