Engaging and well written, so much so that I nearly felt seasick at times. It made me wish I was more adventurous, but then again I'm perfectly content curled up on my couch with a good book instead.

Great entertaining read about love, fear, and how to overcome them.

This year seemed like a good time to get back into travel books and this was on some list I read and available at the library, so ... I went for it.

At the beginning I thought I was going to hate this book, because early on there was a ridiculous love story. (Yes, I know it was right there in the title, that didn't stop me from resenting it. Particularly since none of my bar pickups have ever turned into any sort of globetrotting adventure.) But ... it was ok! And it was such a different travel book from my usual - I know nothing about sailing. (Although, man, it seemed like they got lucky!) But oh wow I wanted to go see some of those islands...even though after reading her book I definitely don't want to sail there!

AHH!!! Love, adventure, danger, relationships, sailing across the Pacific as a duo, WOW. Loved the story, loved the insight into human character, facing fears, enjoying simplicity, and functioning relationships. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

The last chapter of this book is what made me bump it up to 3 stars. The writing style and bad similes had me cringing throughout the entire book. BUT... it was SO fun reading about this author's amazing sailing adventure. And the ending was a very very happy one that made me excited about my own marriage and appreciate the ability to have amazing adventures with the person I love most in the world. A good read.

From the cover and the title, I assumed I would be reading chick-lit. However, this memoir is about facing your fears and taking a leap of faith. Torre only recently started dating this man, when she decides to join him on his sailing trip across the world, despite being scared of the ocean. I have no knowledge of the sailing world but she simplifies it in a way where anyone can understand. Their adventure is so wild and unique (and occasionally funny) that it was hard to set the book down.

I am impressed. Both by the author, Torre, who actually did that, and also by the audiobook narrator who managed all those different accents.

Someone in my book club called this more of a diary than a memoir and… yes.
