DNF @ 25% - Sadly, this was not for me. I didn't really care for the main girls, the chapters were too long and I was struggling to stay interested.

Loved it! I've listened to the Exploress podcast for years, so I already loved Kate's storytelling. I could hear her voice in this book. The magic was unique and ingriguing, and I loved the ride it took me on. Each character was distinct and relatable in some way. The addition of a fantasy diabetic character warmed my heart--I don't know if I've ever seen that in a YA fantasy like this, so I loved it as someone who has type 1. I absolutely cannot wait for book 2! I'm sure this book had some flaws, but for me, I was so wrapped up in the parts I loved to even notice the bad parts. Easily 5 stars from me ☆☆☆☆☆

I really enjoyed Nightbirds and everything the story brought to the table. I really fell in love with the characters and the roaring 20s vibe the entire story gives off. The story is lush and mysterious creating a wonderful atmosphere for the book. I felt the end of the story was a little slow and for that reason I struggled to want to finish it.

I think this might have been one of the best books I've ever read. The world-building is wonderful, the characters feel real and have depth to them. Have already ordered the second book and it can't arrive soon enough!!

How many known fairy tale elements can you slam into the last 40% of the book out of nowhere with no real rhyme to the original magic system and get away with it in the name of girls with elemental magic
