This book was terribly written, the stolen plot points from the movie 'Labyrinth' were ridiculously obvious. The main character is whiny and needy throughout. I wouldn't even recommend this book to a teen which is the intended audience, the main character is a horrible model.

I really liked the storyline of this book but it failed to keep my attention. I think I’ll try out the physical book though because I sometimes can’t focus on the audiobook depending on plot/narration.

You know what I loved about this book? It’s world-building. Julie Kagawa can write a world so good. I was rereading descriptions throughout the entire book, because they were all so good! I was actually pretty surprised how much I enjoyed the world of the faerie.

Our main character, Meagan Chase, is a regular high school student living with her family on their farm. Even though her four-year-old adorable brother Ethan always says that he sees monsters in their house, she doesn’t believe him. Until one day one of those “monsters” take him (aka faeries). Meagan obviously goes after him, and learns things about herself and the world she’s ventured in to get her brother back.

I was thinking the entire story would just be of Meagan getting Ethan back, it was that, but still! There were snippets of things I loved! I loved the political tension between the courts. I liked how there was the Spring court and the Summer court, and the Seelie! It’s so cool!

There were a lot of side characters I enjoyed. I can’t decide between Puck and Grim, because they’re both so funny!

Oh, I found the love story so insta-lovey! I mean, the love-interest is okay, but not anyone that blows my mind away . . . hopefully, I’ll enjoy him more in the next book?

Overall, The Iron King was okay for me. If you like faeries and stuff, you’ll really like this book!

I've had this book on my to-read list for (what feels like) forever now. And I must say, I'm glad I finally got around to reading it.

Quick run down: Meghan has never felt as if she'd belong. Her best friend Robbie (the prankster) is her only friend. Her step-father doesn't even seemed to notice she's around. She's angry with her mother. Misses her father who disappeared when she was younger. And only seems to smile when she's around her little brother, Ethan. When he goes missing, she will do anything to get him back, even if it means entering the strange and terrifying world of the fey, even if it means giving away her very freedom, possibly her life.

Some thoughts: I loved the world Ms. Kagawa created-- colorful, intriguing, and deadly beautiful. Her spin of the fey and their land (Nevernever) was wildly creative and enthralling. I enjoyed her take on classic characters like Robin Goodfellow (Puck), Queen Mab, and others. I also found this new aspect of iron fey to be insanely interesting, her case for them both believable and original.

At times I found Meghan a bit to hot-tempered and impulsive, yet overall I found myself rooting for her. I also enjoyed the secondary characters, mainly Grim and Puck. I got the impression that Puck might have stronger feelings for Meghan, but it never truly stuck. And the sudden passion that sprung up between Ash and Meghan was a bit to quick for me. Ash's "obsession" or "love" for Meghan seemed to happen suddenly. I did believe Meghan started having feelings for him, but I didn't see how she was able to melt the prince with the heart of ice so quickly.

In summation: I found this a thoroughly enjoyable read and look forward to immediately starting the next novel in this series.

All I can say is that it was a really inexpensive Audible book that was actually a good brain soother after Sierra had to be put down and Bill was having A-fib.

It was nice to immerse myself in a new Fey series. This was a much different t take than what I'm used to, although much closer to actual Fey legend for once.

The trickster and lethal ways of the Fey were fully on display in this series which was interesting.

I enjoyed this story. It brought Faeries into the modern world but also kept it w ough of a fantasy story to keep me interested (I'm not the biggest fans of contemporaries).

I did have a couple problems with it. I felt like it sometimes didn't really know its audience that well. There were times I felt that this book should have been slightly more middle grade, and then others it was more YA with the inclusion of swear words (no complaints on that front) and talk of passion and lust. It felt a bit back and forth for me on that front. I would have preferred it to feel more consistently YA.

Also, whilst I enjoyed Ash and I loved his capricious nature, I felt the romance between him and Meghan very underdeveloped. It felt very insta-lovey and not much interaction between them of that nature before they decided they loved each other. I would have liked more banter and intimacy before declarations of love.

I also felt that our main character was incredibly naive for a girl of her age. Of course she would be clueless in the land of the Fae, but even some basic interactions of hers with humans were quite cringey. It was incredibly obvious in the beginning how the other characters were making fun of her on several occasions and she walked right into the trap everytime. Very frustrating and again made me feel like the intended audience was middle grade rather than YA at points.

However I still enjoyed my time reading this book. Definitely will be placing the next in this series on my TBR. Need to know what mischief Meghan will cause next in the Nevernever.
