5 🌟 physical read

Carley Fortune really did an outstanding job with this debut novel. Her character development was perfect as well as her plot development. I felt as if I was transported to Barry’s Bay and was sitting on the dock with our characters. I felt strong connections with many of the characters and want to know more.

This book heavily explores themes of love, forgiveness and the power of memories. The book gave me a fresh start and hope that second chances are real.

I loved both of these characters and really enjoyed following along their journey from childhood friends to their adulthood. The chapters switch from the current time period to years before. The only thing that made this shy of 5 stars is I get frustrated when characters hold back from each other. I also listened to the audio for a fable read along and the narration was very good.

I was so sure this was 5 stars for until about 80%. I just didn’t like what happened but it wrapped up fine.

A sweet enough beach read. It was cheesy fairly often (then again, I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator was insistent on her teen girl voices), and felt a little like a teen book had been misshelved. Still, enjoyed the ~romantic scenes and the way the chapters shifted.

Every Summer After is a captivating second-chance romance that beautifully intertwines the past and present, exploring the complexities of first love and the relationships that shape us. The story follows Percy and Sam, recounting their time together during summer days that are both cherished and haunting.

As a sucker for second chance romance, I adored the way the narrative unfolded across two timelines—showing us their initial relationship and the moments that led to their reunion later in life. The writing is gorgeous, and everything about this book feels nostalgic, making me fall for all of the characters. If you love stories that explore love's enduring nature, this book is a must-read!
