Holy moly, this was everything I want in a Romantasy!!

A badass main character, memorable AND lovable side characters, queer relationships mentioned without being plot points OR forced, action, mystery, and an overall plot that kept me hooked through the whole story.

From the first line of “that bitch took my soap” to the cliffhanger ending, I was entranced. I need to dive into the rest of the series immediately because I need answers!!

This book gave me ACOTAR vibes but I actually liked the main character in this book. So I liked it better. The trials are fun to read and I love that Lor makes friends instead of just staying a loner. It was a fine read and really picked up for me at about 85% through. I may just like Nadir chapters better. I will read the next book.

I like the characters but I don’t find them loveable. I enjoyed getting to see the layers of the mc. The book was very predictable for me but that makes for a fast and easy read which is sometimes exactly what I’m looking for. I’ll probably finish the series.

I haven’t read the Throne of Glass series yet, so I can’t say if this is a rip-off as I’ve read multiple times on the internet. I had fun reading Trial of the Sun Queen. It reminded me of The Selection by Kiera Cass, just with older contestants, more blood, more intrigues, more murder, death, and violence. Perhaps a splash of The Hunger Games could be found in there as well. I’m excited to read the other books!
