I always try to finish ARCs I receive, but this one was just...not good. I've been trying for three weeks before throwing it in.

I have read other Alexis Hall books and enjoyed them. I do not see how this could be a romantic book at all - Jonathan was an actually terrible person and, for that matter, so was Sam for pretending he had amnesia.

Do yourself a favor and read this author's other works. They're great!

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC.

Without fail, I will love the first book in an Alexis Hall series, but then be sorely disappointed in the 2nd. So it makes me nervous that I love this one so much and there's supposedly another one in this world coming after. But I'll still give it a shot because when Hall is good, they are really fucking good.

Sam works for Jonathon in a Bed, Bath, and Beyond style megastore and through hijinks that barely make sense, Sam has to pretend to have amnesia so that Jonathon won't fire him. It's straight out of AO3, but in a good way? Also, since Husband Material was Four Weddings and a Funeral, I'm getting Christmas Carol vibes from this book and I really fuckin dig it.

I feel like Sam and Jonathon had zero chemistry in the first half and I'm pretty sure it was past 200 pages by the time we got a sentence about J smiling. But once they broke through that ice? woo buddy were we off to the races. Hall's characters never do anything by half measures. Once they're in, they're in with no looking back.

I wish we could have gotten more of Sam's history and background instead of just a half-chapter at the very end. Would it have changed their relationship faster? Probably not, but I feel like parts of Sam's personality would have been easier to explain and digest if it was known.

Oh no, I’m sad I didn’t end up liking this one. I’ve read quite a few of this author’s other novels and they’re usually quite charming with a good dash of British humor. This one was just not it. It’s as if the author thought of a cute idea and that idea was all they had, but they had to cobble together a 400 page book out of it. It was so boring, there were two whole separate casts of irrelevant and irritating characters and even the two main characters had no redeeming qualities. The writing came off too-try hard and just wasn’t funny.

But regardless, thank you to NetGalley for the arc

Oh boy, maybe reading the ending of this in public was a bad idea. Folks have been looking at me like I’m crazy for the last 30 mins. An absolute delight to read

Listened to on Spotify. Sweet playful book. Everything I expect from this author.

This was such a cute story by itself, but I think the narrator Will Watt made it even better! It is an easy read/listen and I found myself smiling throughout most of it. If you need a quick pick me up then I suggest this book.

I am not usually a fan of the misunderstanding trope, but Sam was a fun character so I was invested. My only issue is I don’t think Sam gave Gollum enough credit in thawing Jonathan’s prickly exterior.

I can’t wait to read other books by Alexis Hall.

Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio ARC.

I could not connect with any of the characters for the first 25% of the story.
