To live or watch life through the eyes of others. A fury against and a reconciliation with poets

Další skvělý Kunderův román o životě básníka, mateřské lásce, o ovlivnění života i tvorby básníků socialismem. Kniha obsahuje spoustu krásných i zajímavých myšlenek.

the misogyny and Oedipus complexes made this one a bit of a slog for me. the fact that it was a satire, and the insufferable men were usually the butt of the joke was somewhat redemptive. the parody of the self-aggrandizement of artists was particularly amusing, and tragic.

I basically think that everything Kundera touches (writes?) is gold. This wouldn't be a favorite Kundera book for me though because I despised all the characters. I think that if anything, it's probably more challenging to write such a good novel with only a sort of anti-hero... no sympathetic characters. But it was trying to spend time with them.

Vintage Kundera. As always in depth on the human condition and troubles of communism. Although perhaps a bit too meta.
