I enjoyed this, but it goes without saying that this book is a product of its genre and its time. Some aspects of the writing, for instance the introduction of Magda where we get mention of her "shamelessly jutting" breasts, can feel a bit sleazy, but in a fun way, for the most part. Either way, this is very much 80s pulp horror, and it's very clear going in exactly what that tone is going to be -- the book is about a vampire killing nazis and boy oh boy do they die, but if we're being literary about it, there are some actually very interesting things happening with the conflict of man vs nature (vampire) and man vs machine (inasmuch as fascism is machinery) and the conflict of machine vs nature. It walks a very VERY thin tightrope and manages to stick the landing both thematically and from an overall storytelling standpoint.

I read this when I was in high school and I had forgotten most of it. I only remember that there were Nazis and a keep on a mountain. I probably liked it better back then, but it is still pretty entertaining.
