After reading the first book in this series, A Quick Bite, I never ended up writing a review, but it didn’t leave much of an impression on me. I adore this author’s Highland Brides series so was a bit disappointed. It took me a while, but I decided to try the next book (this one) to see if it clicked with me. It did. It’s not up to the standards of the Highland Brides, but I can see the potential.

As with most Lynsay Sands books, there is a lot of suspension of disbelief. And not just because we’re dealing with vampires. Yet I had no problem with that because it was fun. The way Rachel becomes a vampire is ridiculous, and once she was in the Argeneau world I kept wondering about her parents, but still it was all fine with me. For the most part, I was having a great time.

Etienne and Rachel are great together. I wasn’t a fan of how much Etienne kept her in the dark, but they had an undeniable connection that was at times sweet and at times fire. Etienne’s main goal was to keep Rachel safe and keep her near him for long enough that she wouldn’t want to leave. Rachel’s just trying to navigate this new world and adjust to her new reality enough to return to work.

As I’m getting to know the Argeneau’s better and the author works on the world-building, I look forward to reading more.
