This is apparently my first reread in over a decade, since before I ever created a goodreads as it’s not on here already. I’ve tried several times but got stalled 5 pages in, I suppose because I was scared it wouldn’t be as good as I remember it.
My only review: It is.

I really like Miyazaki's movies, and I think the overall story here was good. Ultimately, I just didn't care very much for this. I couldn't tell what was supposed to be happening a lot of the time, or who was who, or who was talking even. It was quite difficult for me to get through.

Gorgeous just like the movie, fascinating already the way its more detailed and slightly different from the movie, excited to see how far past it this goes. Definitely just need to cave and buy myself the boxset 😭

I checked this book out through my local library after discovering that this series had inspired one of my favorite video games (the Horizon series) and I have been absolutely delighted. Unfortunately, my library doesn't carry any other copies, but I will be purchasing the box set as soon as possible. What a delightful story!

My husband loved this series and has been telling me I should read it for years, but I only recently picked it up as part of the Read Harder challenge for 2019 (read a manga - last task for me!)
Miyazaki's story is, as always, wildly creative and filled with strange creatures and places. There's a strong environmentalist theme at the core of the book and Nausicaa is a badass princess warrior pilot who has special powers related to nature. If you know me, it's probably not shocking that both of these are incredibly appealing to me. The world of Nausicaa's world is awesome and terrifying; some of the larger illustrations show this strikingly well.
However, I found the story a bit hard to follow at times and difficult to drop back into because of the complexity of a lot of the black and white illustrations. It's possible that I'm just not used to reading manga and that this would become easier over time, but I'm not sure the plot itself is engrossing enough to encourage me to pick up the rest of the series. I'll probably watch the film instead.
