"'Why do you like mysteries so much?' Harry asked.
'I'm deeply skeptical of any book that doesn't begin with a corpse.'(his father said)"

Well this book starts off with a corpse, adds another couple in the middle and ends with one. How can you not get any better than that!!! This is the first book I've read of Peter Swanson's and will definitely check out his other material. This is an engrossing psychological thriller that is twisted with love, deceit, taboo romances, suspense, sadness and justice!!! It really was a clever guessing game throughout the book of who was telling the truth and what were the lies. It felt like a big onion, the more you peeled back, the more layers there were to the story. Great read!

Dammit, Peter Swanson. You've done it again.

A tight twisty psychological thriller from an author who (in my estimation) is becoming a master of the genre. A new Peter Swanson novel is an annual holiday; and I'm prepared to celebrate every year.

The story begins with Harry Ackerson, days away from his college graduation learning that his father has died. Harry travels to his father's home in Maine and learns that his 'accidental' fall may not have been an accident at all. There to console him is his stepmother Alice, a beautiful and sensual middle age woman that Harry has fantasized about on more than one occasion. Alice, however, has a past that she would rather keep hidden. Could her past be connected to the death of Harry's father?

Didn’t love the multigenerational damage of this one, but stuck it thru to the end

Wow!!! This has some twists that were very cool! I enjoyed the alternating POV of then & now. And just when I thought it was over it really kinda wasn’t. PS is a master!

A dark, unsettling and disturbing read in all the best of ways. We have Harry arriving home to attend the funeral of his father Bill. Bill was the owner of a book store housing unique and rare books and had remarried Alice after the death of his first wife when Harry was just a teen. Harry has always had a fantasy going on for his step-mom, but feels weird when Alice seems to be needy toward him in more ways than one. Strange things start happening and Harry begins to suspect his father's death may not have been an accident. Told between alternating time lines, it was a captivating read that had me on the Swanson rollercoaster and ready to ride. Just when I was smugly thinking I knew where things were going, Peter expertly showed me he is the writer of this book and I am just clueless and along for the ride. A thought provoking read that will have you questioning peoples morals and motivations to do the things they do. Another testament to why Peter Swanson is an autobuy author for me. #peterswanson #allthebeautifullies#faberpaperback  #thriller #goodreads #getlitsy #thestorygraph #amazonkindle #bookqueen #bookstagram
