I was anticipating this book for so long because I was WAITING for Teddy and Gus' book. I wanted to like it more than I did, but that may possibly be because I overhyped it so much. I still love the characters and was interested in the story, but it didn't grip me as much as I hoped.

The game of Twister was hilarious

This was a nice read and I appreciate the green flags the main characters demonstrate throughout like communicating with and supporting one another. I just don’t think this was quite the book for me, I think I liked some of the author’s other works a bit more but as always, the special note at the end always gets me emotional and I think that adds to the overall story being positive the way it is.

It was a cute story but it just didn’t really work for me. I didn’t feel like the romance was developed enough - the main characters basically go from hating each other to being deeply in love with each other over the course of a few chapters without much to explain the change. I would have enjoyed more development of their backstory or more pining, perhaps.

i loved this! each book truly gets better and better. i love that Sage always works in representation with her characters that make them feel so innately human and relatable. Teddy's fear of losing her sense of self while everyone around her that she loves seems to need her less and Gus's determination to always be able to bring it all all the time really struck a chord with me.

okay, spoilers ahead that don't necessarily give much away, but really sold me on this book.

  1. when Gus was depicted
reading his daughter's books before he read them to her so he could be sure that he didn't struggle with reading them out loud bc of his dyslexia was such a tender moment.
    i melted!!!
  2. there is a moment that a minor character
essentially food shames Gus's kid and he shuts it down fast (there are no good/bad foods, just food). to write a character that doesn't perpetuate harmful language around foods, especially for a child, is so important for people to read and have normalized!!!

  3. when Teddy is on her period,
i noticed that Sage chose to use the term "people with uteruses"
and this is what we mean when we say reading is political!!! even romance!!

to prioritize language like this in a cowboy romance is so impactful and it gave me so much joy to see these examples.

and finally, this spicy scene will live RENT FREE in my head forever!

"...I want you to go down on me until I come, and then I want you to kiss me, so I can have a taste."

Gus smiled at me again, then flipped onto his back. "And I want you to ride my face. So I think we can both get what we want here."

"August Ryder," I breathed as I sat up. "Are you offering me a mustache ride?"

Gus smoothed two of his fingers over his mustache and said, "Saddle up, baby."

I don't know how I'm going to handle the end of this series that has come to mean so much to me. Lyla Sage is unmatched when it comes to capturing 20 something emotions/feelings. I high key relate so much to Teddy's struggle with feeling left behind while all her friends are moving on to the next thing in life. Teddy is such a fun character too. She's loud, a bit unpredictable, hot as hell, and not afraid to tell you how it is. She's honestly Gus' "worst nightmare," because he loves having a plan. But as always sometimes the best things in life are unexpected.

My favorite part of L&L isn't the off the charts chemistry and smut (though it's amazing as usual for Lyla Sage), it's actually the soft moments as Teddy and Gus get to know each other beyond their pre-existing best friend's brother relationship. Gus gets to see just how much Teddy cares for everyone around her (especially Riley) and Teddy gets to be the one who he lets his walls down with. They're just so cute y'all!!!

Lost and Lassoed is not just a romantic love story; it's one of familial love between parents and their kids and platonic love between two best friends. I think my favorite thing about the Rebel Blue Ranch series is that every book mentions how Teddy and Emmy are soulmates. I've been lucky enough to find the other half of my platonic heart in my best friend, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I think this is my new favourite in the Rebel Blue Ranch series! 🤭

Teddy and Gus make my heart swell - I’ve loved them since I first saw them in Done & Dusted and this delivered everything I wanted and more! I realllly enjoyed this read. It made me laugh out loud so many times and even cry at some parts too! I truly love Teddy and Gus’ dynamic. I really enjoyed watching Gus and Teddy’s relationship bloom as they learnt that outside of their quips against each other, they actually had a lot in common! And I cannot forget to mention that the tension and banter between the two was *chefs kiss*.

This was a breath of fresh air and I loved each and every one of the characters. I don’t think there was a single character in this book who didn’t get a chance to shine. Riley is the sweetest kid, and the cast of characters at Rebel Blue, including Gus’s family, Cam, Dusty, Hank, the whole crew - add so much to the story and I adored them all. I loved the co-parenting dynamic between Gus & Cam - truly showcasing healthy communication at its finest and a great parenting dynamic! Their relationship in general was wonderful and I loved that we got to see more of Cam’s personality (I seriously cannot wait to see her in Book 4, some of her one liners were fantastic!).

The parent/child relationships in this book really got a spotlight and it was done incredibly well on all fronts. The relationship Teddy has with Hank had my heart full! They are so sweet and have such a great father/daughter dynamic that it made me emotional at some parts (IYKYK).

The way Sage writes Emmy and Teddy’s friendship felt so realistic and I loved that we got to see two grown women maintaining a long-term friendship and still communicating so well with each other.

TLDR: I really enjoyed it. There’s an excerpt at the end written by Layla that sums up the vibe of the story very well - “[this story is] a testament to fathers and daughters and sons. What it means to love the people in our lives deeply and truly—even when it’s difficult and scary and heartbreaking.” And I couldn’t have said it better myself!

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the complimentary e-arc in exchange for an honest review. All opinions in this review are my own.

Bring on Wild & Wrangled (especially after that ending OMG)! I cannot wait to see Cam and Dusty’s story! ♡
