Beautiful story and fantastically written. Max is a very curious hedgehog with a very big problem to solve. This story follows Max, a small, confused hedgehog on his adventure. With many bumps along the way (physically and metaphorically) the story ends with Max as a hero. A warm ending which brought tears to my eyes and gave me goosebumps.
This is the first chapter book I have read with my Year 2 class and they loved it. Brilliant concept, brilliant characters and lots of lovely learning came out of this book!

This book is so cute and funny... it is about a Hedgehog named Max, who lived with his parents and his three sisters, struggling about how human could crossing the road safely. This made him think hard and made an experiment.
Max begins his investigation about the road, for first time, he finds a zebra crossing and decides that this must be the secret to crossing the road safely. To test his theory, Max decides to walk across the crossing in front of a lorry. However, he quickly comes to realise that that traffic does not stop for hedgehogs, only people. Max disappointed and return to his house and explained his first fail experiment.

Max decided he must trying again the following day. This time he notices people crossing the road when they see a green man appearing on the traffic lights. He attempts to cross the road here but finds it difficult to avoid the people coming from the opposite direction and only just makes it to the other side. He almost make it to cross the road, but the problem is he didnt know how to get back to the first place.

Max trying hard to do his best to cross the road safely without hesitation or afraid. I really love the character Max here, because he is a fighter and never give up. This book really give the good influences to all children who read this book. Because when there is a will, you will find a way like Max does :)

Cute, but dated. My 6 year-old wasn't impressed.

There are so many great stories written by this author but this was one of the first my daughter could read herself!

We both love hedgehogs so we particularly enjoyed this one.

Poor little Max the hedgehog is desperate and determined to cross the busy road to get to the park on the other side. Unfortunately his first attempt leads to him getting bumped on the head and he gets all his words mixed up and becomes a 'hodgeheg' instead of a 'hedgehog!'
This was one of the funniest parts in the story (Max tries to explain himself to his family.) My daughter found it hilarious!
Little Max is undeterred and continues on his quest!

A funny, heart warming story. Such a great book to read aloud. It also has absolutely gorgeous illustrations throughout the book. Perfect for a new reader!
