I really enjoyed this book. Strong female protagonist and a really different take on the stories of mers and witches and otherworldly characters.

It was an interesting read with a satisfying ending. It was definitely boring at certain points and wasn’t what I expected when I bought the book.

This popped up on my audiobooks so I gave it a go. A cute Irish-ish family secrets mystery based around Mer (mermaids). Lots of great folk/fairy tales woven throughout. Most mysteries all tied up by the end. It does gloss over some pretty gory and x-rated scenes and details, told in a detached non-chalant way when the scenes were a bit shocking. I do wish the Janus faced mermaid symbol or the bell was on the cover though.

I very much enjoyed this book! It didn’t totally wow me, but I don’t really have many complaints either. I think I would have liked just a sprinkle more magic or fantasy. I’m interested in reading more of A.G. Slatter’s work.

A fine piece of well-imagined dark fantasy! This one has a slow beginning, but I'd urge patience: once main character Miren O'Malley gets herself on the road, things happen with satisfying speed. You'll never feel quite the same way about mermaids after reading this one. . .

Not particularly dark imo. As usual a star rating is just for my own reference later on. Good book for getting stories to tell kids though. Going to have to go memorize some of the old tales for next time I’m tucking someone into bed.

"They keep telling us, all these god-hounds, that magic great and small has gone, yet that's just wishful thinking on their part. They cannot burn every single woman, tempting though it may be."
"Some folk make a point of not visiting pain on others when it's been done to them; most people, though, think it's their due to inflict a little of their own agony."
