A funny and clever concoction of separate but overlapping stories.

Unique story line, in love w the jester//fool//devil character line, very smart and funny, historical fiction at its finest, magical realism done well (I usually can’t get into it), well-realized and believable, very cool to see it shortlisted for international booker, great dialogue. I feel like I’m not well-read enough to tie this back to older literary greats from some European canon— if I was, I certainly would. Pretty masterful!
