i disliked the organization of the story on part 3!!! i think the chapters would have been better split between POVs and years of when things were happening. my only negative comment on this book 😌 now that we are over that- i love the characters, the plot, the twist, the writing style, the incorporation of a writer in an extramarital relationship!!!  jojo slayed with this one! i’m a big fan of the film adaptation and i loved the book equally as much!!!!

I love this book so much. Can't think of a coherent review that does this justice but I cried at least twice while reading it. The film is equally amazing, if in a different way. 

This book has a wonderful writing style and an interesting story with a twist at the end.  I also liked the two main characters Jennifer and Ellie.

I watched the Netflix adaptation earlier this year and wanted to see how it differs from the book. 

A word of warning though for those who avidly avoid and enquire "is there cheating in this?". Yes. Like so much. 

It is the 60s affair of Jennifer and Anthony sandwiched between Ellie's modern-day affair. 

It is often difficult to truly like the characters because they're all so flawed. It is however very readable. 

I did prefer the film. There isn't much of the modern storyline in the bulk of this novel so it could be easy to forget most of what is going on with Ellie. I will say though I think the latter portion of the book I probably prefer comparing the two. 

All the chapters have a 'last letter' preluding them which is interesting but sometimes is a bit unnecessary feeling since only some are real and others are from the novel itself. I wish they had all been from the real world. 

I was probably never going to rate this very highly since it's based on the love stories of two women, both of whom are cheating (one on her husband and one with a married man). However, even forgiving that part, it just wasn't written well enough for me to enjoy it as a love story.

I found the first part confusing as it jumped around a lot between Jennifer's life in the 1960's after a car accident and a few months prior to that accident. I suspect the author was trying to give the reader the same sense of confusion that Jennifer had waking up from the accident without her memories, but it really didn't work for me. And then, after I finally broke through that confusion and became moderately attached to the character of Jennifer Stirling, there was another time jump to the 2000s and a whole new set of characters. Since that time jump happened so late, those characters didn't feel really fleshed out and I had no attachment to them (although I was very attached to the wonderful Felicity Jones who plays Ellie in the movie). 

The entire plot is entirely reliant on the miscommunication trope, and I honestly I just kept thinking 'try harder'... Rather than reading this, I would honestly just suggest watching the movie instead.

Jojo Moyes is the main responsible of me being a hopeless romantic. 
Whenever I finish one of her books, I close it with a sight, hug it closely to my chest and stare at the ceiling with teary eyes for five minutes.
She has that effect on me.
