I enjoyed the snarky tone of the book and the intrusive narrator. Some of my students have really liked this book, but others couldn't get into it.

Very strange, but very good. I liked the characters, and the notes from the author were hilarious!

An absolutely delightful start to a charmingly clever series. The cheeky, fourth wall-breaking narrative style really wimmerses the reader and makes you feel like you're a part of the adventure. Cass and Max-Ernest are the most compelling 11 year olds I've ever met, delicately walking the line between being too childish to enjoy reading about and too mature to be realistically (by fantasy fiction standards) 11. Even reading this as an adult, there's plenty of jokes, riddles, and plot twists that keep my on my toes. I'm very eager to continue the series.

This book was really amazing.
I liked the way that the author kept everything so secretive and unexplained.
I liked chapter thirteen because the number thirteen was crossed out and replaced with a simple 14.
My favourite character was Cassandra because I thought she was brave and I liked her big elf ears.

My ten year old daughter recommended this book. She read it in two days and gasped and giggled all the way through. This is a quick moving, fantasy adventure with interesting references to people and ideas throughout history. The narrator's conversational style includes humorous footnotes and asides that make readers interested in learning more. I'd tell you exactly what the book is about, but, as the title states, it's a secret you'd be better off not knowing. Read it if you dare!

This was actually a really great book and I quite enjoyed reading it. The writing style itself was very interesting and unique in my opinion, and it really kept me engaged with the story. That said, I feel that there were some discrepancies in the story, or certain plot points that could have been handled better (not going to name any specifics). However, all in all, it didn't really interfere with my enjoyment of this book, and I'd definitely recommend reading this, especially if you're looking for a read that's quick and humorous while still maintaining a mysterious air.
