Characters:
Vivian/
SpoilerJane
& Grim/Death/
SpoilerAnubis

Synopsis:
SpoilerViv is now blood bound to Grim and desperate/stubborn to keep her distance feeling as though her freewill will be at risk since he has the ability to control/compel her. They discover that Amit, a god in the form of a crocodile that eats souls not worthy of heavenly afterlife, has been stolen. Without him, Grim is forced to consume and contain the souls inside himself at great risk to his own life. In their effort to find the god that is stirring up trouble and locate Amit, they attend a ball revealing to Viv how superior and bitter the gods feel about their current status. She encounters Seth, the snake god of chaos, who has a significant grudge against Grim making him suspect #1. He makes an effort to rattle her by showing her the face of her abusive uncle. Shortly after, he publicly humiliates her and Grim causing Grim to attack and all hell to break loose. A demi-god she also met, Idris, attempts to keep her safe from the chaos and tries to manipulate her to drink his blood. Grim intervenes just before and when they return home, he reveals that drinking the blood of another god would dissolve their bond and she would then be bonded to the new god and under their control. As the story progresses, she continues to find a way to prove Seth is involved in Amit's kidnapping. She finds a way around Grim's command to not reveal gods exist and is able to bring Miranda into the fold. Eventually she chooses to confront Seth directly and when leaving the encounter, Idris kidnaps her. He wants her to bond with him in his efforts to get his revenge on the gods but, when she refuses, he decides to drain her of her blood to make his own vampire. She is rescued by another goddess (who we later find out sympathizes with the vampires after their genocide) and is returned to Grim. Through his blood he heals her but is weakening significantly. Seth ups the stakes by taking advantage of a war (with many souls as a result of the casualties) and inviting her abusive under and aunt to the hotel shortly after as a diversion. Vivian is able to talk Grim out of killing them to protect her but he loses control of the souls and Timothy and Fallon are forced to put him into a trance to buy them time. Vivian and Miranda join forces following a lead from her hacker contact. They follow Seth and find out that, in direct violation of Osiris, he has worshippers and is keeping Amit on display. They fight it out and Vivian, through her vampire ability with compulsion, is able to win and return Amit to Grim (although, somehow, Seth escapes
Spoiler...something something cats *cough*)
. Attempting to awaken Grim so that he can release the souls to Amit, Vivian meets him in another plain of existence and remembers that they have met before when she was just a child and he came to personally reap her parents following their tragic deaths. He spoke with her briefly and she held his hand promising to stay by his side. Vivian, seeing that the souls are literally tearing Grim apart, takes them onto herself. Grim awakens and is able to push the souls to Amit and save her. During the duress, he understands how deeply he loves her and confesses to her his true feelings but her trauma makes her unable to verbally return his feelings. She agrees to move in with him and we leave off with a mysterious package left at the elevator which turns out to be Seth's head where Grim reveals to her that there are only 2 known ways to kill a god: with a sword or as a juiced up vamp.

Overall: 4.4/5
I'm still loving this series but I will say Viv had some especially dumb moments.
SpoilerFalling so quickly for Idris' manipulation despite the obvious warning signs and also attempting to confront Seth despite Grim's warnings both just screamed stupid
Even so, her continuous snark and watching Grim finally seeing some happiness and even goading her back was great. The characters are fun and Viv's use of humor to cope keeps it from getting too dark. Jumping straight into the next one.

Ugh, I started this book after I finished the first and got 20 pages in before I needed to sleep and then started it started it again tonight and couldn’t stop until I finished. Soooo so good. It’s hard to make a sequel that rivals an amazing original but oh my it’s just so good

Grim & Vivian: This Couple Just Got Hotter! -5 Stars

Grim and Vivian are on the hunt for a missing god, Amet, who devours dark souls brought in by the reapers. Since he has gone missing, Grim has had to absorb the souls, lest leashing them out into humanity which is a very bad thing. They race against the clock to locate Amet before the souls consume and destroy Grimm.

I am definitely here for Vivian and Grimm in this book! My review of Book One was not as favorable as this one due to world-building, which I hate, but I understand it’s a necessary evil. My affection for this couple and continuing on with the series is because it read like I was watching an episode of LUCIFER, which is my favorite show! I love how these two interact with one another!

The smexy factor was definitely present in this book! It definitely made up for the lack of it in Book One. I loved that we saw a softer side of Grimm and Vivian was funny as ever with her wisecracking. I just love these two.

I enjoyed this book so much I cannot wait to get to Book Three.

Happy reading!

5 stars! Grim proved himself over and over. I adore that guy! Vivien is still hilarious, and all the new information revealed, made for a non-stop read. Loved it so much!
