It feels odd to give this book a star rating, so I’m not going to do that.
An absolutely harrowing read yet so important. I had never heard of the term ‘Chemical submission’ before reading this book.
I did think we’d see the court case play out, but the book ends before that.
I read this book with bated breath because it was one new thing after another and just when you think it can’t get any worse, it does. There are no words for Dominique and the other rapists.

“Most are blithely unaware that they’re dangerous criminals.”
Hard time wrapping my head around this because how can you not see what you’ve done? I mean, I understand how it happens on a psychological level but it’s still very hard to fathom.

“For some experts, the popularity of chemical submission is partly linked to abusers sidestepping potentially guilty feelings by telling themselves their victim felt nothing and won’t be troubled by memories of the assault after the fact.”
“What depths of dishonesty does it take to have maintained, all these years, the tranquil illusion that everything was normal?’”
“You really are your father’s son. The worst of him lives on in you.”
“every assault took place without my mother’s knowledge, due to her having been secretly drugged by my father – a horrific and seldom talked about type of abuse called ‘chemical submission”
