Thanks to the Midnight Ink 10th Anniversary celebration at Malice Domestic 27, my Mom was given this copy and also had the pleasure of meeting the author. Lucky for me, she shared her copy with me, so I got to check out a new-to-me author and series. This was the third installment in a series featuring former nun and new private investigator Giulia Falcone and her ex-police officer boss (and boyfriend) Frank Driscoll. Set shortly before Christmas, Giulia's holiday takes a turn when she learns that the adopted baby girl of her friends Anya and Laurel has been kidnapped. The couple suspects that the kidnapping is related to two similar cases in nearby communities that ended with devastating results. With the reluctant support of Frank and buy-in from the local police chief whose staff is stretched thin, Giulia goes undercover to find the missing child before it is too late. Like Giulia, the author is also a former nun who "jumped the wall" and weaves in plot elements that allows Giulia to draw on her past life in the convent and apply them in a believable way to her new role. This was a fast read and contained likable characters that will have me seeking out earlier installments in the series.
