Very experimental with hits and misses. Makes a very compelling book club read.

Mielenkiintoinen mutta hämmentävä lukukokemus. Kirjailija joutuu yksityisetsivän hommiin ja omaksuu samalla erilaisia identiteettejä. Taustalla kummittelee halu paeta omaa menneisyyttään.

Yllä oleva kuulostaa kliseiseltä amerikkalaiselta yksityisetsiväromaanilta, mutta Austerin, ilmeisesti postmoderni, versio tarinasta on hyvin omintakeinen.

Vaikuttava ja valmis esikoisromaani, odotan innolla trilogiab toista osaa.

"Baudelaire: Il me semble que je serais toujours bien là où je ne suis pas. In other words: It seems to me that I will always be happy in the place where I am not. Or, more bluntly: Wherever I am not is the place where I am myself. Or else, taking the bull by the horns: Anywhere out of the world."

Book is an epic mind f#@k that I wouldn't mind reading again. Appreciated the interweaving of literature, religion, history, philosophy, language, and psychology. The book did not end up where I thought it'd be, so that's another point in its favor.

я так і не зрозуміла, що відбулось у фіналі "скляного міста". але що б то не було, воно виявилося шалено потужне.

Ahh!! A rumination on authorship, ownership, being a character and creating ones on life story. Quinn, a New York Don Quixote, has no Sancho Panza to keep him in check (or keep us in check) as to what reality is or is not. I have a soft spot for this since I wrote a final paper on Quixote and reality.
