First up, I want to say I received this as a preview from Arthur and as such I may or may not be a bit biased.
That out of the way, I enjoyed this book. I found the story quite interesting, and I liked the weird sort of casualness there was to all the admittedly crazy things going on. This is not a book that's trying to be the next high fantasy epic, it's just a small slasher/slight horror flick, and it does that really well in my opinion. Think Buffy-esque, but with a bit more emphasis on the murdering, and a lot less emphasis on the love triangles.
Reading this between big epic fantasy series felt like a really needed break. It was quick, it was engaging, and it wasn't filled with a lot of exposition it didn't need. Actually quite the opposite, I would have liked to get to know the characters a bit more before they were expectedly murdered in all sorts of ways.
I'm not giving it a higher score because I feel like it needs an editor to run through it again. There's way too many small editing mistakes, and it does pull you out of the story at times. If that hadn't been the case, I'm pretty certain I would have leaned towards a 4 star read instead.
In conclusion: It's fun, I liked it, it reminded me of Buffy ever so slightly. I wouldn't mind reading the next one:)

I received a free copy of Vicky vs the Spriggan in return for an honest review here. This story was simply "ok" for me, I didn't love it but I certainly didn't hate it.
If you are a fan of slasher horror films, this is essentially that at its core and that is something I can certainly appreciate. There are no real surprises to find as this book follows the general horror movie slasher formula, but that is totally ok. I enjoyed that this took a bit of a twist on that by having the villain as a Spriggan. The setup is what you expect to find in a horror movie, a bunch of people that don't know each other, from different backgrounds are put into a situation that most of them will not survive. As a horror movie fan, I love this setup. It's tried and true and it's always fun.
This book even does what I knew was coming and that was having a shower scene in which the couple showering gets brutally murdered. I expected it and it was still fun to read. As I said, everything you find here is what you expect in a slasher film.
Overall the book was a light/quick read and had some fun moments, but I have to mention the negatives. This book has far too many editing problems for me to overlook. Words are spelled differently from page to page, capitalization and punctuation errors are found on nearly every page as well and certain dialogue just doesn't make sense. I would strongly suggest having someone edit the rest of the series because it badly needs it.
Overall, the premise while not original, is fun enough to make this type of story engaging but I have to admit I struggled to read it at times because of the glaring editing problems. If none of those existed this would be a 3/5 rating as I would have enjoyed it a bit more.

This is a tale of Nature taking her revenge on mankind, and it a truly enjoyable one.
Most of the human characters are all so... not nice that you struggle to not wish for the Spriggan had its wicked way :P Vicky is an interesting, complex character, same as Brin. And I enjoyed a lot the Spriggan's journey from its awakening to its end: the way its conscience grows along with its knowledge on the era... really well done.
The narration was amazing and adds to the overall enjoyment of the book.
A fitting story for Halloween :)
