i appreciated the topics covered in this book, and i found it really well written and easy to understand
i kind of have to agree with some of the lower reviewers that i would have preferred less of the author’s opinion (the points where she seemed to argue with her interviewees- especially the executioner- really irked me)
i am not a nonfiction enjoyer LOL but i tried to rate this without the bias of like,, not enjoying nonfic very much so i think that my feelings on it were generally neutral

This was an interesting non-fiction read by an investigative journalist in the UK who interviewed people with all types of jobs involving death. Executioners, crematory workers, grave diggers, first responders...

Fascinating read: will enliven a world that deserves to be known and appreciated. So much work goes on after people die, it’s something that absolutely needs to be discussed.

Not my favorite book in the world writing wise. However, the topic of death and the people who’s work is intertwined with it. Is such an interesting topic that I had a good time with this book regardless.
Graphic: Child abuse, Child death, Death, and Miscarriage
Moderate: Suicide
Minor: Homophobia and Classism

I did not want this book to end! This is one on those non-fiction stories that is soo elegantly written you feel comforted by the intuition you receive. It’s honest and thoughtful, caring and kind. A must read for science geeks, fans of Caitlin Doughty and Mary Roach, and curious others.

A moving look into the lives of people who work in the death industry. I cried many times, especially in the chapters that dealt with deceased children. The topic, a heavy one of course, is handled with care and compassion by the author. I hope she writes many more books.
