This book presents a skeptical look at the practices of the modern church, as they have evolved and been influenced by society. The particular focus of the book is restoration of the personal experience of a relationship with God. I particularly appreciated the last chapter, which declaims the prevailing worldview that distinguishes between the sacred and the secular and calls for the personal recognition that there is - in reality - no such separation. I have long thought this to be true and was gratified to read and think about it again through this book.

The sole purpose of this book was to draw the reader closer to God. It did just that.

Requires effort and patience to appreciate, obscured by archaic language.

He offers a very zealous and challenging perspective that was encouraging to me. He also provides useful and practical advice. Stimulating ideas and useful suggestions.

Loved this book. Yes, it's a little older, so his writing voice is somewhat dated. He still had an amazing message. Lots of food for thought.

More poetic than a to-do list, but more practical than a melody. This book is an excellent reminder for the heart that has a bend toward legalistic tendencies. Tozer is heavily based in scripture and unapologetic about the all consuming nature of the pursuit of God.
