I can’t tell if anyone liked or his or not. I enjoyed the structure where it split the story into the slow motion breakdown/running away versus life in Wales.
I didn’t like all the inane detail. She didn’t drive her car, she walked to the car, opened the door, put the key in the ignition, fiddled with the radio, got into reverse and so in. I also hated everything that was written in caps.
I find the other reviews quite telling that society isn’t ready for a story about a woman who abandons her family. They want to stay in the tribe, not be singled out for being different. They want to fit in.
This character was tired of the facade of fitting in and bleakly explores what freedom looks like.

Irish authors are really pumping out short, self-contained and completely confident work these days. It's wonderful.
