challenging informative slow-paced

4.5

They were writing in the 1960s, so the reader does need to overlook problematic words for BIPOC/BAME people, and Glaser's insistent use of masculine pronouns for "the researcher." However, it's a good foundation upon which to build later conceptualisations of Grounded Theory, like Kathy Charmaz's work. It's thorough, and explains how to perform research with that method, and gives the researcher hope for creating theories that actually reflect reality and can be used to remediate social problems. It's simultaneously quite depressing, because Charmaz and Belgrave's paper, printed in 2019, is still arguing for qualitative methods to be accepted in the ivory tower.
