god this was a struggle to read! i love the series but i found this so hard to get through
i really dislike the way carr writes her female characters in this book — all the physical descriptions felt very icky and distasteful
dishonourable mention for ricky and lizzie’s relationship??? so so grim!! i’m so glad the age gap is rectified in the series but ricky’s pedophilia is way too normalised in this wtf

It wasn’t a bad read- it was enjoyable at times. The description of women-sexually was a little awkward and made me cringe a bit. But I liked the story line. A woman moving to a small town to get away from something life altering and finding love in the most unsuspecting way. I did like the way it touched on loss and grief in the sense of moving on following a loved ones death- feeling guilty and like you couldn’t give your all to someone.
There were a couple scenes between 14/16 year olds that was weird and I didn’t like the context in a more adult book.

I put pedophilia as a tag- but it wasn’t really that- it was a scene between a 14 and a 16 year old. It was awkward reading it as an adult in a more adult type book and made me a bit uncomfortable.keelyana's review against another edition

I liked Mels perspective of falling in love with the town and being reflective. The sex scene between a 14 year old and a 16 year old felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. It ruined a lot of the enjoyment. The characters felt more developed in the tv show than the book. It was boring at times too. The description of people’s breast and specific number of their weight was weird and made me cringe.
