I love when the titles of the book make their grand appearance in the book and connects the entire book/theme together. This tale of a young Nigerian girl growing up in a typical African household was really captivating and intriguing. Patience, the young girl, just wanted love. But she wanted it in right places. Throughout Patience's life, she made silly choices which then led to her demise but I enjoyed the journey of how Patience had to lose herself to then be able to find herself again.
Beautifully written!

The book dragged on a bit at times, especially in the middle third, but I enjoyed getting to know Patience and her dogged determination. I found every single man in this book, particularly Chike, to be an insufferable twat but honestly I'm fine with that

This book was heart breaking & heartwarming at the same time. I really enjoyed how this book took place during political unrest and showed how everyday people survived. I live the discussion of family dynamics and how diverse each character was. Throughout the book I had hope Patience was gonna find her mom. I was also scared she wouldn’t leave Nigeria by the end of the book. Overall, it was a great read! Loved it

Underwhelming, unrealistic, repetitive and culminates in a disappointing ending.
In Patience Is Subtle Thief we meet Patience who lives with her father, stepmom and half sister. She was told her mother went away to America because she could not take care of her. Patience was born in America and her plan is to get her passport and track down her mother in America to find out why she left her. The only problem with this plan is, she does not have access to her passport, birth certificate or money. Patience becomes fixated on this plan and will stop at nothing to make it happen.
Honestly, this book was so underwhelming and unrealistic. The whole time I am reading this book I kept thinking, “dis cyan real!” After a while I actually stopped caring because Patience became such an unlikeable character and I wasn’t invested in whether she won or not.
I did not enjoy this book at all.
