This book is intensely wordy!!! The descriptions were so long. You get pages of words with so little story. And the words aren't important at all. You can scan pages and I don't ever do that. I never would've finished it had it not been for a buddy read. There's also no structure to the writing, it just switches POV mid chapter. Maybe it was a great book back when it was published but it did not stand up to the test of time for me.

Terrible book. The story was boring. The end predictable. And the narration? The worst. Skip this one.

This book was exactly its title intense. I literally could not put it down. It was absolutely exciting and thrilling from beginning to end.

This is the first Dean Koontz novel I've read. I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting going into it, but ultimately it was pretty disappointing for me. The pacing was incredibly slow with descriptions and internal monologues that seemed to never end. There were intriguing elements to this book, but the excessive time spent on boring details throughout (like the protaganist attempting to free herself from bindings for what feels like an eternity) killed my enjoyment.

The characters felt a bit 2-dimensional for me as well, unfortunately. Even with all the time put into their back stories throughout, their motivations never felt particularly believable to me.

Overall, nothing in this book really surprised me. There were a few good moments of suspense. But yeah, it just wasn't for me.
