this is the first book in a really long time to make me actually cry. woah so moving and so different than what i’ve read before. loved the meditation on the black suburban family and how racism is horror. so good and thought provoking, especially as someone that grew up in dallas but didn’t live in the suburb areas.

3.5 rounded down. Some of the writing choices broke it for me, a bit.

This wasn't at all what my overly literal brain expected based on the summary. I did not see some of it coming though others probably did ping sooner than I. The formatting was a struggle for me for a long time. It caused me to to engage with the characters and often dread picking the book up again.

I want to start off by saying the narrator was great. It fell short of my expectations and DNFed it.
