Well a lot of fans of the Tangled Lies trilogy have waited for this book! The series finale to the Deliver series and Pam delivered. The way Lydia and Cole met and throughout the first 25-35% trying to get past the unconventional way this couple was connecting was hard for me to actually see the connection between the two. This definitely was unexpected for me as I'm having a bit of conflict on Cole's story. Seeing all of our characters throughout was great its just that I'm just sad to say goodbye to this series. What a ride this series was. I wonder what Pam has next up her sleeve.

I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

“Love was a chance. A chance worth taking.”

IT’S THE END OF AN ERA!

Cole Hartman is probably the sexiest badass in Pam’s literary world and finally getting this book, reading his journey, and experiencing his ending left me all over the fucking place.

And if I am completely honest, the fact that Lydia was a strong enough female character to handle all of Cole’s angry, dangerous, possessive assholeness both scares me and impresses me.

“More painful than a fist, more lethal than a bullet, more formidable than an army of men, she brandished beauty like a mythical weapon, gaining the advantage by merely standing before him, looking like that.”

I feel a bit hollow knowing it’s the end of all the stories of my beloved Freedom Fighters. But this story was the one I was waiting for the longest and anticipating the most. If you’ve read Tangled Lies, you’ll understand why. I was truly worried that this book wouldn’t live up to what I wanted, but I went in with a clear head and came out gushing about the amazing plot, the development between all the characters and their relationships, and smiling about their ending.

Pam Godwin. You fierce amazing woman you. This series has been a go-to for many rereads over the last few years and I can’t believe it’s over. But it was fucking worth it! And ended so beautifully.

It’s taken almost 2 years to write this review because I was so unhappy with this book. The Tangled Lies trilogy is one of my all time favorite love triangles. I have reread it numerous times. I have been waiting YEARS for Cole’s story and it was such a disappointment. He deserved better! It was too rushed, there was no real establishment of an actual connection between them and then for him to see Danni pregnant and feel NOTHING towards her after pining for 9 years????? No one who loved someone that way ever gets over it so entirely that there’s no pang when they see them! The author did a complete disservice to their history by pretending there was zero impact simply because he was with someone new. Ugh I hated his ending so much I was tempted to write a fanfic to do him justice! I still gave 3 stars because overall I usually really like her books.

The long awaited journey for Cole to get his HEA.
I loved every minute of this journey.

How am I supposed to read more dark romance series… knowing that this one exists.

I’ve been consumed and totally captivated by Cole Hartman since first meeting him.
I wanted his story so badly.
I needed it!
Cole is my ultimate hero.
He is everything a powerful man should be.
His loyalty and his commitment knows no boundaries.
His love knows no limits.
Everything admirable quality to Cole is everlasting and ever enduring.
Nothing about him is easy or casual.
It’s all or nothing with Cole.
I absolutely loved that Cole is so dedicated to the woman he loves.
He loves wholeheartedly and with total abandonment.
But once he does look at because he becomes totally obsessed.
“I don’t do causal sex. I’m a partner for life. A dedicated, faithful, protective, possessive, jealous obsessive partner.”
Yes please I want!
He’s the same way when it comes to his work.
He will get the job done no matter the amount of time or energy it will take.
With Cole being such a strong man in his beliefs and in the things he dedicated to ridding the world of.
He needs the same in his woman.
A strong confident lady.
Who can and will stand shoulder to shoulder with him.
He needs the female version of himself.
He also needs a woman who will love him just as fiercely as he does.
“I don’t want to be an addiction. I want to be the love of you life.”
Lydia is about to give Cole a run for his money!
She is exactly what he needs.
He just doesn’t know it yet!
She is his perfect match in every way.
“That was when she realized that the things she carried around weren’t so different from what he carried around. It was profoundly overwhelming and powerful.”
So lookout because these two are going to take you on one hell of an emotional journey.
Filled with heartache and pain.
With passion and lust.
With sexy and sexual times.
Until the very end.
“In his kiss was heartbreak and risk and choice and chance and a million dreams al condensed into a moment. A moment hard-won.”
Thank you Ms. Godwin for Cole’s beautiful story.
Thank you for The Freedom Fighters
And thank you for this phenomenal unforgettable series!

Note: An ARC was provided by the author.

Confession time: I didn't want to read this book. Why? Because I didn't want this series to come to an end, and reading Complicate would mean that it was time to bid adieu to the Freedom Fighters. Yes, there's always the whole re-reading route, but nothing comes close to experiencing a story for the first time, and when it comes to romance, seeing that story through as it works its way towards that guaranteed happily-ever-after (unless it's got a cliffhanger ending, of course!). And Cole Hartman? Well, he's special, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. That's what happens when you know his back story, and it's a doozy!

In order to have a better understanding and appreciation of Cole Hartman, I highly recommend that readers check out the Tangled Lies trilogy. This was released back in 2017, and its story features Cole, his best friend, Trace Savoy, and the woman they both loved, Danni Angelo. If you've yet to read the first eight Deliver novels, you could try to jump from the Tangled Lies books straight to Complicate, and then check out the Deliver books you missed. Just keep in mind that this series is best read in order of publication.

This series ender was a bittersweet read but a rather satisfying one as well. I don't want to give too much away, so I'm reeling myself in and trying desperately to temper my tendency to be overly exuberant in reviews for books that I loved reading. The story of thirty-eight-year-old Cole and twenty-seven-year-old Lydia was a compelling one, with a great deal of that romance and suspense that have become fixtures in Pam Godwin's dark and intriguing world of people fighting against the slave trade and finding both love and freedom in the process. After everything he's been through, Complicate gave Cole the happy ending he deserved, as well as the conclusion the Deliver series needed. Five stars.

I had been waiting for Cole's story for what feels like eons. It went differently than I was expecting. I wasn't expecting the cat and mouse game for the second half of the book. That isn't a bad thing it's a good thing. I was expecting more of an expansion on how the book started. When things went in two different directions and there was a time-lapse, the story got a bit diluted to me. Especially, when the previous characters made an appearance. It just felt a little rushed and contrived.

Even though his story was different than I expected it still was a good ending to the series. It is a little bittersweet that this series is over. I'm looking forward to what this author does next.

*SPOILER WARNING*
If you have not yet read the 𝘛𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘦𝘴 trilogy by Pam, you need to read that one prior to even starting this series! Trust me! That trilogy has the best Love Triangle I have ever read, and you WILL be heartbroken for the man she does not chose, but he comes back in this 𝘋𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳 series, and I don’t want you to spoil the ending of that one, so do not read further if you have not read that series first!!

FINALLY Cole gets his HEA. 🥰

“𝙄𝙛 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙, 𝙨𝙝𝙚’𝙨 𝙖 𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙠 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜. 𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙠 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙚, 𝙤𝙧 𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚.”

So, I was in the subset of readers who enjoyed the ending of 𝘛𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘓𝘪𝘦𝘴. I thought Danni chose right. (I tend to hold a grudge against characters, and Cole leaving like that…I would have always held it against him. 👀) Anyway, the way this ended, and the way this whole *family* is in the Epilogue, this just felt like the perfect ending for them, and especially Cole. 🖤

This whole book was so fast paced and engrossing, I finished it in one shot.

This whole series was such a great epic dark romance series. It tackled the darkest of topics, and Pam is the queen of getting us to hate a character, and then managing to get us to love them in the end. This series truly sucked me in, and I’m so excited to continue on with my Pam Godwin journey.

Which book should I read next? 🧐

What this book is giving:
✅ Dark Romance
✅ Dual POV/narration
✅ *He* finds his person 🥹
✅ Captive/Captor
✅ Secret Identity
✅ The finale

Rating:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ /5

I'm kind of disappointed by this conclusion to the Deliver series but also somewhat satisfied?

I loved the series overall but my favorite one is Deliver (book one) as it brought me out of a bad reading slump and reignited my love for dark romance and I'm obsessed with it.

I am happy Cole got his happy ending. I can't believe I'm finished this amazing series
