really enjoyed this book. Liked that despite the omnipresent narrator you were finding things out more or less at the same time as the characters. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and their growth. The ending was very satisfying and also surprising. I love a good ending.

I really enjoyed this book. I came in expecting the worst based on the ratings. However, it had enough death, hope, explosions, science, space, emptiness, heartache, trials, emotional roller coasters, mental health issues, character development, and sci-fi for me to enjoy a 2 year overview of 6 young adults destined to go to space.
I don't know what more you expect out of a 500+ page book with 6-7 different viewpoints. It was a hell of a ride. Figuratively and literally. It has been a while since I read a book, and it played like a movie in my head.

I was honestly expecting more for the second half because of that build up in the first but it was ok in the end. Still slightly disappointed..

Although this book is very readable and I appreciate the diversity in characters, believability is an issue since the betas clearly were not psychologically sound enough for a one-way mission to a different planet.

I really liked most of this book except for some obvious errors like wtf would a space agency not fully, deeply, intrinsically vet each and every candidate. Soooo many unanswered questions though. What I thought was the point of the story (the cult) was not. So, at the end, I really hoped to find out more about the cult and the planet and the ties to “destiny” that the author brought up so often. Is there going to be a second book??? It seems too much to leave to the readers’ imaginations.
