I really liked it at the start but it kinda went downhill for me. Im not a fan of sci-fi but this story sounded too good to not read. I don't regret reading it though! its a solid story!

I liked this book a lot for about 90% of it. The ending isn't bad but I can't help wanting a bit more... a crumb, a tidbit, anything. A short epilogue or something. I enjoyed reading this book and it did give me the book sads after I finished it because of how invested I was. I didn't want it to end which may be why I'm not feeling the ending. I may feel differently about it later but for right now my heart hurts and I have Big Feelings. Definitely worth the read and worth the book sads.

i honestly can't pinpoint what about this book made me feel so deeply, but it does a great job of digging into some essential part of the human experience that i found relatable. while i do think this book could have done with some better editing (writing wise, but also pace/structure), the exploration of these young characters and their struggles was beautifully written. i honestly didn't even mind the open ending because of how much it made me cry, like something about this book just got me. the discussions of utopias and the darker sides of humanity felt very topical for the time i was reading this.

An internal, space settler novel. Filled with children raised to settle a distant planet, what they did to win their spot, and what they’ll do to survive their journey. It’s a slow burn, but has great characters to love and hate and ultimately understand.
