“But if it’s true that a single human sacrifice can get this crazy weather back to normal, then I’m all for it. Who wouldn’t be?” (129–30).
This volume raises the question that will most challenge the reader (viewer) at the end of the story. Suga’s blatant formulation feels ugly—but I think it’s what we all struggle with. How much are we willing to sacrifice something good in order to gain a feeling of control over our surroundings? As long as I get stability and peace of mind, does it matter if someone else has to suffer, especially if they’re willing to do so on my behalf?
It’s such an interesting point in this story, because as I see it, on the one hand it’s a terrible thing to believe. No, we vehemently say, of course we wouldn’t sacrifice something innocent just for our own personal security and control! And it’s right to say that. But then on the other hand, as a Christian I affirm that that’s exactly what Jesus was for me: the innocent sacrifice that confronted the elements and guaranteed my abundant life.
This is quite a lot to ponder, especially in an animated film/graphic novel.

I just don't really care. Compared to Your Name the characters and plot feel flat.

I recently managed to pick up the second and third books in the Weathering With You manga and decided to carry on with the series as part of my Spoopathon TBR. I love both the Weathering With You and Your Name films by Makoto Shinkai and I love finding out how they translate to manga and light novels.
This volume is the middle in the series of just 3 books and encompasses the sadder part of the story. I couldn’t help but find myself a little emotional at the end! If I’d have been reading this story for the first time without knowing the story prior to reading, I imagine I wouldn’t have been able to put this one down and it does end on such a cliffhanger!
Again, I love the artwork but it does work so well for the manga as it reflects the anime so well. Although it is naturally difficult for me to judge this one as I love the film so much, it will always hold a special place in my heart.
