This is a highly entertaining action-filled novel with easily imagined descriptions of equipment, environment, and combatants in such locations as Costa Rica, Somalia area around Baja California, San Diego (Coronado), submarines, and other ocean-going vessels and advanced military equipment. There is an intense description of a rescue mission for a severely abused hostage victim.
The Code Word Operation that is invoked because of the horrendous threat to our domestic security results in a tragic loss of a central character and results in a heart-rending description of the memorial service.
I was able to watch the movie

Listened via Audible.
Another Clancy on audio, another disappointment. I am not sure what it is... narrator, story... I just don't know. I followed the story just fine, although I did zone out quite a bit, I just found it unengaging. Maybe it would have been better to read instead of listen, who knows. Meh, can't win 'em all I guess!

I really wanted to like this one when I got it. I think I did like it, to some degree. Because I really wanted to watch the movie afterwards. Which I never did. But none of it was memorable. I don't know what it was about. I was reading a lot of these kinds of books at the time, so much of blended together after a while. I'm pretty sure I still have it, but I don't think I'd ever reread it. I think I bought it thinking it was literally Tom Clancy writing it, and was a bit disappointed to realize, upon closer inspection, that it was someone else. That may have been what lessened my enjoyment some, since Clancy is a top-quality writer and this didn't feel like it was up to par.

I don’t think detailed military accounts are my thing. This one however was good.
