The writing is atmospheric, the plot picks up once the stakes and scope get revealed, and I enjoyed the ending, but until then, we're stuck with egregiously long chapters, an insta-love relationship I couldn't find myself invested in, a lack of organic dialogue, and antagonists whose motivations barely hold up.

took some time to let this book simmer in my head and decided to change my rating,, i love a good romance but vega and noah's relationship felt rushed, and it was hard to enjoy them until the last second

the story was interesting and i enjoyed the world building quite a lot, but i just felt some of the characters were awfully flat in comparison. while the writing itself was fine and actually quite pretty, some scenes could've been executed a lot better?? I'm just not sure how to feel about this book in general

and the cliffhanger/open ending left feeling dried:(

I got this book because I love Shea’s books. This one was just not for me, but it is well written.

I really wanted to like this one, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. As someone who has a fascination with astronomy and space, I can't let the inaccuracies of the astronomy and science in this go. It was just so wrong and inaccurate that I could not suspend my belief long enough to enjoy it. Add in insta-love and cardboard cutout flat characters; I just wanted it to end.

2.75/3 stars - I love the authors other book “a history of wild places “ but was a little underwhelmed by this book. There were parts I enjoyed but I thought a lot of of the plot line was very vague

I think if I had known prior that the setting of this book is inspired by the wild west, I might’ve waited to read it when I was in the right mood. But unfortunately that didn’t happen and I just really didn’t vibe with it this time, which is disappointing because I’ve loved all of Shea Ernshaw’s other books. I was just frankly a bit bored and felt like the twist towards the end wasn’t redeeming enough :/
I also got a little annoyed with the “romance” with the characters since I felt like they had bigger worries and it just felt forced. This is the first boy she’s ever met so OF COURSE they HAVE to fall in love.
