“Swift and sinister like a raven, you will swoop down, executing your reprisal. You inherited the gift of premonition, use it, and run wild. My sweet and fierce Lola, things haven’t ended. They have only just begun.”

This is the second book I’ve read by NJ and I loved it! Her spooky and spicy retelling of Edgar Allan Poe's “The Raven” had me wanting more from the first chapter.

The chemistry and love for Paxton, Cillian, and Lola made you feel want to be a part of their relationship. Each character has a past and history but as a couple, they complement each other to fit as a group.

The story of death, grief, and spooky vibes had me hooked and wanting to know more about Lola’s future. And the Cuervo women's history with spiritual and paranormal connections. We learned how this affected Lola and made her relationship with Paxton and Cillian stronger.

I have always been obsessed with Edgar Allan Poe(my cat is named Poe after Poe Dameron but I also snuck it in there as a literary reference), so as on as I saw the synopsis on this book saying it was based on the raven I signed the fuck up. I loved this book, the plot was so interesting the characters were amazing. This was very spicy, however I was really more interested in the plot and what was going to happened. I also loved the relationship between Pax and Cillian, loving that they had their own relationship outside of their relationship with Lola. I really want to see more of these characters. Cuervo’s Carnival is out 5/18 and be sure to check it out on KU!

This review is based on an ARC copy provided by N. J. Weeks in exchange for my honest opinion. Well, here we go.

I am not gonna get into how Cillian owns me, that would be worth 10k words. But I will praise this amazing author for her work on Cuervo's. N. J. is a very unique type of author, her specific language and writing style balances between contemporary and dark, edgy even, with a dash of that deeply poetic language of gothic poems. You can see her love for E. A. Poe in every chapter, yet she is the sole owner of every page (and your heart).

The way she creates her worlds, portals to your emo dreams, hidden in modern world, it's all-consuming. With every chapter I had chills, I kept falling more and more for the cursed love of our main trio. I cheered for Lola, understood Cillian, was proud of Pax.

N. J. Weeks created Cuervo's Carnival for all the lost souls who need to know that being different can be a good thing. Cuervo's is a soft blanket providing a safe haven. It's a story of loss, finding yourself, of three people who are challenged, scared, brave, in danger and mostly, of a trio that would die for each other.

(N. J., you witch. You did it again. I got under your spell right after reading Skulls and Stitches, thinking there is no way anyone could ever create a man that would top Carmine (and my book hubby Damon Torrance). Then you've mentioned Cillian and Paxton and my world went up in flames.)

Spicy Spicy!!

Cuervo's Carnival is a (very) loose retelling of Edgar Allan Poe's narrative poem, The Raven.

This is such a creative concept for a novel, and it definitely intrigued me!!

I absolutely love the poly relationship here! Lola, Cillian, and Paxton are the definition of a dream couple. They love each other equally, and would marry all three times if they could! Cuervo's Carnival Takes a look into their heavily spicy relationship

Cuervos Carnival is a loosely based on the reimagining of the poem, The Raven, by Edgar Allen Poe. A dark, MMF romance. Cuervos Carnival was a haunting, suspenseful, but steamy ride. I was unsure of the way the story would go. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat.

Lola a fearsome fmc. The daughter of the president of the Reapers motorcycle club. Gifted with a sixth sense, like all the women in her family, she doesn't understand the signs that she is receiving. But, everywhere she looks, the raven is there, staring, haunting, screeching, talking. Is it a bad omen? A foreshadowing of bad things to come?

In order to keep the two men that she loves, they need to get away from the clutches of her father & the biker club. Pax & Cillian chose to hide away with her at a haunted, abandoned amusement park. That's when things really amp up. I wish there was a little bit more character building for these two. However, the relationship between Lola and each of them was hot and for them necessary. Cillian, the dark, brooding one with a dark past and Pax, is the talkative one and free spirit. Their love for each other never wavers but the betrayal of people close to them, the warnings from beyond the grave, and the strange happenings going on in the amusement park keep you guessing. However, these 3 learn to live fearlessly with & for each other. There will be a continuation of book 1, but it did end satisfying.

Oh my heavens! Life. Death. That ever present pull towards the supernatural. This story navigates through the intricacies of the spiritual realm… and it's fantastic!!! “The Raven’ is an ever present classic poem, and I just wasn’t quite positive how a retelling would go. This was breathtaking.

Lola was born into a motorcycle gang, The Reapers, as her father is the president. She is to be married to another according to her father’s wishes and her father is not kind to her, so she makes a choice. She runs with Paxton and Cillian, the men she loves. These three have passion for days and it is epic.

This story encompasses grief, love, happiness, pain, and betrayal in only a few pages and I just love it. I can’t recommend this enough.

Thank you to N.J. Weeks for providing an ARC. N.J. Weeks is another first read author for me, and I truly love her style!

I have been an EAP fan for a very long time, so when I saw Cuervo's Carnival, I threw myself at the chance to read it! N. J. had me in a death grip by the hair and neck. I don't want to give away too much, but I adored Cillian, Paxton, and Lola.

My only complaint is that I wish the book were longer. This was such a beautifully written gothic twist on Poe's work, with plenty of references, intrigue, spice, and mystery.

Talk about a spicy, spooky ride!

I'm not kidding. Despite this being a short read, I had no idea where it was going most of the time - and I mean that in the best way. The vibes were instantly, deliciously dark, and the references to Poe's The Raven made for an overall satisfying reading experience. As far as the romance goes, this is a TRUE MMF/throuple situation - not RH or MFM. While some of the spicy scenes were a little hard to follow (where is he? her hands are on who? who is doing what to which? that sort of thing LOL) NJ still had your girl fanning herself and blushing like a schoolgirl.

The ending was also so, so satisfying; I loved the theme of retribution and revenge, and of stepping into your own power after being cast in shadow all your life. There are definitely opportunities to continue the story, and I'd love to one day see more of Lola, Paxton and Cillian.

Big, big thank you to NJ for the ARC. I'm so happy to know you and I'm so proud of you doing the damn thing. I can't wait to continue watching your skills and prose develop and reading more of your future work!

I had to sit with this for a bit ...

Loss is one of the most transformational events ever! It does NOT even have to be of another, it can be of yourself. We go through many stages in life, and along the way one loses themselves in the midst of change according to our surroundings.

For those of us that see it, we truly use it to our advantage. For those that do not see it yet, we use it as a stepping stone tobegin the journey.

I truly enjoyed the "spiritual" aspect of this story. The symbolism in this is on point. Being a Latina myself, but growing up on the "holier" side, it is always so cool reading it from the side of those who have always believed there is more to just Caucasian baby Jesus.

I was actually looking for more when it came to Paxton and Cillian, but I fell in love with them. I loved how dedicated they were to Lola. How they were there when she needed someone during her time of loss, "spiritual journey" and family betrayal. You will get through things in life at a bit more ease with the right support system, and they were both that for Lola.

Curious to see if there will be more to this story, considering it was left "open ended" 🤞🏽
