Read this book for Uni as it is a classic. I just found a lot of characters and situations either frustrating and confusing. Along with Jane's choice of emotions for certain events are so bizarre. Overall, just confusing and I feel like not worth my time.

A good book for if you want to see the perspective of a girl who grew up from nothing but still thrives in making herself happy

I truly don’t know where to start with this review. This is such a full and complete book that any attempt on my part to grasp its significance will be unsuccessful. To me, it’s more than a work of fiction, it’s a book full of knowledge and wisdom, of life lessons. It covers themes such as love, freedom, faith and all in a beautiful and poetic writing.
It has taught me a lot and it has stayed with me ever since I first read it. I feel like I owe a lot of what I am to this one book. Now after rereading it, I found even more depth to it, more layers. I am even more convinced now, that I will always come back to it, to learn and rekindle my love for reading.
Jane, as a character, as well as Helen, are truly my book heroes. They represent what I aspire to be : strong, brave, kind and devoted.
It is also astounding to me how much my perception changed since my first read. At first I thought that the relationship between Jane and Mr Rochester was romantic and a true love story. I now don’t see it like that anymore. I think that he, like most men at that time, is toxic and that Jane deserves better. His words and actions are questionable or even despicable. I think that his role in this story is not to represent a love interest but he’s rather a way to show Jane’s qualities such as strength, determination and in the end, her sense of duty and empathy. It also shows how not everything is black or white, good or bad, there are nuances to our relationships and that with time and patience, people can change.
I am already looking forward to seeing what I will get from my next reread. But for now, Jane is constantly with me, in my heart, as a role model in this modern world.
