That was terrifying! She's so very obviously has daddy issues (parent issues in general), abandonment issues, everything issues! She meets her boss for two minutes and suddenly she's in love? He says to her he's old enough to be her dad and they still "fall in love"??? No one told me this was a horror story! A cautionary tale to all young women! She's not even 20!!! Every girl should have an adventure when they're 19 but don't be locked down to a man in his 40s!!!! R U N

One thing I did kind of a little bit like was the many, many, many literature and bible references. Only because it made me realize what I think of now as brainrot has always existed. If they had phones they'd be obsessed with vine / tiktok / twitter / tumblr references. If all I had was books and gossip and the daily newspaper or whatever I'd be randomly making bible references too. We're not so different past humans and I, except I'm not racist. So actually we are different.

One of my all time favourite novels. I just love every part of it and feel like each read I notice new details I missed during my last read.

my review of this book is colored by the stageplay performance of the jane eyre adaptation in advance of which i read the book being cancelled at the last moment. i am still bitter!!!
i liked the general vibe and message and arc of this book. jane was serving sad pitiful orphan with a big beautiful brain
hated
mr. rochester and wanted to kill him with hammers. but i respect jane’s choice and that she did not compromise on ~liberation~ .

also some lovely classic british novel things like uhhh racism and antiziganism and horrible british people

I'm kind of shocked I'd never read this (at least as far as I remember), but am glad I finally did. Everybody who messed with my girl Jane Eyre can suck it; she's a queen. I love how sassy she is, and can appreciate how shocking the character must've been at the time it was written. I agree with other reviews I've read that said this is not a romance. Rather, it's not "just" a romance; it's a Gothic novel set in the moors of rural England. Gorgeous and atmospheric.
