Once again, super impressed to how well this series is holding up. I was obsessed with these books in high school so much so that I still rave about them 15 years later. I thought I might have romanticized those memories. Boy, was I wrong. I fucking love this series.

It was torturous to get to the end and what I had been waiting for, but well worth it. This one took more than a 24 hour time period, but less than 36. If it hadn't been a school/work night, I totally would have stayed up to finish it too.

Starting book three in 5.4.3.2....

The character development in this book was slightly better than the first, but I can't give this book any higher than a 1 based solely on Jess's OBSESSION with sex. The book culminates with her "losing it" to Marcus, who writes a shitty song to win her over, and we are supposed to see it as some great achievement in her life.

I liked it overall, but there was just SO MUCH ANGST. I'll eventually read the other books in the series, but might need a break for now.

Very weird reread, the 9/11 element feels very odd.

Second Helpings continues Jessica Darling's acerbic journal entries and letters to her best friend, Hope, who has moved from New Jersey, about her senior year. Similar cast of characters as the first book. This time I read the original from the early aughts, with it's sometimes problematic language. I wonder what the author changed for the updated version? There is still the sexual tension with Marcus Flutie, even though Jessica dates his best friend and valedictorian rival, Len. Funny and touching glimpse of a super-smart girl's take on high school.
