And just as I started thinking no one had written any fun books about mermaids, I find this one!! Love it. :)
Why don't I read love stories more often? Why aren't there more Mermaid books? Both great questions Forgive My Fins has answered.
Answer one: Because there aren't enough Quince's in the world of YA.
Answer two: Because only Terra Lynn Childs can make their world come to life and all other authors bow to her power.
Loved it!
Long review TK.

I read this one a few months ago. This is the first book in a series. I’d seen a review of the second book, and when I saw it is a mermaid story...well...if you’ve been reading this blog awhile, you KNOW I coudn’t pass it up!
I was not disappointed. It was a cute, sweet teen romance. Lily is a mermaid princess, living on land. She had recently learned her mother, who died when she was young, was NOT a mermaid, but human. So she went to live with her human aunt in an effort to know her mother’s world. What she didn’t count on was her attraction to a human male, Brody! She also has an annoying neighbor, Quince. I don’t want to give too much away, but there is a mistake made, and Lily ends up bonded the Quince...not Brody. With mermaids, this is not a casual thing. Only her father can reverse the bond and it is not something to be lightly undone. Without giving too much detail, I will just say, if you enjoy mermaid stories, be sure to pick this one up. It’s a quick, fun read. Perfect for a summer afternoon by the pool!
My Rating: ★★★★ 4 Stars

I had a sudden urge to read a mermaid novel and I'm glad I picked this one. It was a quick, fun read! :)
The story was quite predictable but I enjoyed it nevertheless.

Cute. Cute enough to keep me reading despite being narrated in the first-person present tense (ew).
Lily Sanderson is not your typically teenage girl crushing on the popular swimmer boy, Brody. She’s also a mermaid. Through a few unfortunate circumstances, she ends up bonding with her neighbor and tormentor, Quince. For mermaids, bonding is for life, unless broken before the next lunar cycle. Lily doesn’t waste a moment in trying to get the bond broken, but is it what she actually wants?
When buying books I don’t know much about, I’ve started to read the reviews others have posted. There were a decent amount of people that didn’t like the book, but I decided to buy it anyways because the book was on sale for $1.99. I really regret it.
There was definitely a lot of good things in this book. I loved how the author incorporated the sea slang into the book. I found the mermaid mythology to be really interesting and I liked that the author actually clothed the mermaids (which is a very rare thing with mermaid stories).
My biggest issue with this book is Lilly, the main character. I can totally understand (and identify) with the whole ‘having a crush on a guy that you don’t really know,’ but Lilly took it too far. She couldn’t get over him at all and they barely spoke. I was so frustrated when she couldn’t even recognize her growing feelings for Quince. Any normal person wouldn’t be that stupid to brush them off so easily.
I really liked Quince’s character, but I wish there was a bit more of the real him showing through before they were bonded. Everyone could tell that he picked on her because he liked her, but I feel like his shift between annoying and caring was a bit abrupt. Once they were bonded, he seemed to just completely stop picking on her/joking about her and that is a bit uncharacteristic of him.
I really didn’t enjoy the ending. (Spoilers) Because of Lily’s stupidity, they get the separation and then she finally understands that she love him. It’s so aggravating that he was going to give up everything for her, but she just threw it back in his face. Then she goes back to land to be with him. Ugh! Could you not have just been a little less pig-headed and stayed bonded with him? I understand it’s sweet and all that she’s now sacrificing her world for his, but as of the synopsis of the next book, we see she has to go back. (End Spoilers)
I would really love to know how this all ends, mostly because I can’t really stand starting a series and not finishing it, but I really don’t want to have to sit through the rest of the books. I could feel myself just wishing this book got to the inevitable point – where Lily realized she loved Quince. Don’t get me wrong, the writing in this book was good, but I just couldn’t stand Lily’s frustrating emotions and stubbornness.

Soooo second time reading and it still gets me. I was balling my eyes out when Lilly's dad broke the bond which did me no good because I swear, my tears might as well be Thalassinian waters for how much they burn my eyes.
I really really wish there was a 4th book in the series. I wanted Quince to get time in his fins. and Lilly hasn't even saved the oceans yet XP

Okay so this book was about Lily, who is a mermaid. She's blindly inlove with Brody, who is a swimming jock. Her nemesis is Quince, a biker-boy who makes it his quest to ruin her life. As she's about to have her first kiss with Brody, she walks into a setup with Quince. She kisses him and now they are romantically bonded. It's a magical mermaid tradition. This all happens pretty immediately, so don't worry about anything getting ruined.
Let me just say, I loved the book in the first few chapters. It had potential! But then I read chapter after chapter of the same darn thing. Quince and Lily clicking and being romantic, then one of them getting P.O.ed and leaving. The separation process to remove the bond took FOREVER. It was drawn out for the sake of the book, and was not done very well. I thought the characters were deathly undeveloped.
The whole plot was just cliché. I disliked the ending as well, because in my opinion—it wasn't satisfying. Let me say about the epilogue—WTF. Just, that. Uncalled for. You never mentioned anything about Dosinia's parents, and then you do THAT. It was stupid. And just to draw the reader in to read the second book. *sigh*
It gets 2/5 stars, because I enjoyed reading it. Other than the times I was scoffing in my mind. Yeah, I'm not a fan and honestly don't really recommend it.

With the influx of fantasy in the young adult genre, it is hard to find one that is different than the others. Many have similar premises to each other or the same fairy tale creatures. Tera Lynn Childs has given us a mermaid tale. Now it is similar to The Little Mermaid in some ways (mermaid loves human), but there are twists that make it unique within the genre of fantasy YA.
Now- the little mermaid part: Lily is a mermaid princess who is living as a human to win over a boy.
The twist: NOT GONNA TELL YOU! :P
