Lots to think about in this one. Skip the last chapter though - the tone is different and it ruins the book a little.

The ending, well, oh dear. Nevertheless, on the journey there I was entertained and intrigued by the book, though its strengths (dialogue, propulsive readability, realism) were matched by weaknesses (why is one character in first person and the others 3rd? cliche writing and the ending).

Mr Fletcher, a MILF recently gains some freedom as her son moves to college. She uses it explore her sexual side for a short period in the suburban Haddington. The book has a good assortment of characters who are bisexual, transgender and into older/younger partners.
It is not a greatly funny book. The writing is beautiful without an extra word. The books ending is quite sappy and predictable.

This book was readable but disappointing. [Spoiler alert...]

Her son is an ass and learned almost nothing. And I’m surprised that the book ends both open ended and depressing.

This was one of those books I checked out one day and by the next morning when I arrived at work I checked it back in, completed. It was not tailored to any kind of spiritual mindset, but this line really struck me as a perfect description of how we appear when when the Son comes out: all of us have sin as part of who we are—before us, behind us, beside us—but if we choose to seek after Him we can live without the crippling burden of those shadows.

A brisk read, and there were some good ideas about navigating romance and suburban loneliness at middle age, dating in the #MeToo era, but the novel read more like a screenplay.

Re-read 11/2022: This was a re-read while I waited for a new book to arrive. I liked it a lot more than I did the first time around, though I thought it was still too heavy on sexual descriptions instead of more involved character development.
Originally read 8/2017: I used to love Perrotta for how his books were a realistic slice of life, no clear beginning or end, just a glimpse. And this book still has that going for it… I did like that we just picked up, and didn’t necessarily get an ending. But it didn’t seem as realistic as he used to pull off. This seemed overly sexual, just for the fun of it. I know, I know - it’s a fiction book! The whole thing is for the fun of it. But for some reason, this just kind of rubbed me the wrong way. It seemed like he was trying to sex it up to get readers, because he knew it was a boring story otherwise. That being said, I read it quickly, and still really enjoyed his writing style. It just wasn’t the Perrotta I was looking forward to.

Wow...feel almost a blush coming on to write that I read/listened to this book. It was a combo of story of a forty/fifty something woman trying to find herself after marriage ends in divorce and son goes off to college. However, details like this “said mom” watching MILF porn and getting interested in lesbian porn was a tad “blushing” for me. Overall I thought it was an interesting story line but not sure I’ll be suggesting this to my mom to read.

Divorcee who is a total milf written from a guy's point of view, so really comes off as adolescent fantasy boy land, complete with a three way, mom texting her son's fellow student nudie shots AND some girl on girl action . It's almost like the author's dream of what he wishes women were up to but, let's be honest not totally realistic. They don't call it fiction for nuthin, but maybe this book should fall under the category of fantasy.
four stars because, hey, who doesn't love steamy once in awhile.
